![]() Open for Busines Made in Chicago From wearable art to industrial displays constructed out of ironing boards, everything in brand-new shop Wolfbait & B-girls, 3131 West Logan Boulevard, is made in Chicago. Owners and fashion designers Shirley Novak and Jenny Stadler opened the innovative boutique last month, hoping to lend an edge to Logan Square by creating a space to showcase their own collections alongside high-quality pieces from other local designers. "We are always open to new things and ideas," Novak says. "We sell very unique pieces, often one-of-a-kind creations, from mohop handmade sandals with detachable ribbons to jewelry and artwork." Novak and Stadler met years ago while participating in local events and collectives for their lines, Bruiser and Brazen-Judy, before deciding to open their own space more a year ago. "We have had a lot of designers find us, whether from Myspace, Craigslist, trunk shows or local fashion events," Novak says. "In Chicago, there is a definite subculture that wants what is not available everywhere. I like seeing the odd one out." Novak and Stadler plan to expand their Chicago-exclusive vision by featuring classes this summer, including a fabric-painting program, and also to involve the community in fashion shows and activism. "We would like to eventually do shows in the Square," Novak says. "We want to be more than just a store, we'd like to have everyone participate and learn how to make something as well."
