The last time you tried to do-it-yourself, your hair turned orange, you
set the kitchen on fire, and you ended up with a shirt that resembled
the one Denise made Theo on the “Cosby Show.” Why torture yourself when
you can have other people’s one-of-a-kind designs without all the pain
and embarrassment? Hit the streets this season in search of unique
finds at Wolfbait & B-Girls. Only open for less than two weeks,
this boutique has already been bombarded by local hipsters who love
their do-it-yourself craftiness and one-of-a-kind vibe. Owners Shirley
Novak and Jenny Stadler combined their own lines under one boutique in
historic Logan Square and also morphed their affinity for Chicago
artists and designers by focusing on talented local designers. You can
find everything from chic threads to fancy stationery to, believe it or
not, cutlery. In June the shop plans to organize affordable DIY classes
like fabric printing. Not that crafty? Wolfbait sells local lines like
Brazen Judy, Bruiser, and Denise Deed. As for the quality—think less
8th grade home economics project and more unique couture.
